In the Spotlight: LegumeMan Books

You go to the bookstore (or stroll onto Amazon.com) and search out books that will captivate your interest.  Surely you'll look for new releases by your favorite author.  Your ADD may get the better of you and you'll catch a glint of a pretty bookcover.  Or maybe, just maybe, Amazon will say: "If you like this, you're sure to like this."  Rarely, though, have I heard anyone seek out a book just because of a publishing house.  You don't hear to often, "I'll pick up this book because it's published by Harper Collins."  It just doesn't happen.

But it does happen within the smaller, independent publishing arena. And, people should take note.  Eraserhead Press has developed a very strong and loyal following and their dedicated readers are likely to blindly pick up an Eraserhead Press book just because of that imprint.

Some of you may scoff at this, but this is a brave new evolution in publishing.  And, it's showcasing a lot of talent that may not have had a chance in the hustle-bustle New York publishing scene.

Today, in the spotlight, we take a look at LegumeMan Books out of Australia.  They're emerging as a very successful, viable indie publisher, and they're cranking out some darn good reads.  I've only read three of their books (Archelon Ranch, A Million Versions of Right, and, just recently, 10 A Boot Stomping...), but each showcases dynamite talent.  Not wanting to tell their story for them, I'll allow them to tell their story...in their own words.

LegumeMan Books Publisher Profile

LegumeMan Books is an independent press from Melbourne, Australia publishing extreme and/or unusual fiction. We work under these deliberately obscure umbrella terms so as not to pigeon hole ourselves or our authors. Rebranded in 2008 by the mysterious Brothers Gunther (a collective of like minded individuals), when it was won in a round of two up (Frenchy rules), we aim to give exposure to styles of fiction underrepresented in the publishing industry. Submissions are open annually from November to February, and if you haven’t already figured it out, we’re not fans of the old zombie story. Our name stems from a common term for pulses. As a guideline, or as we like to call them leguideumlinemans (Frenchy rules), we’re interested in hard edge horror, sicktion (without a k), splatter punk, bizarre, absurdist, odd and different fiction (including yancy horror).

Some of our authors include Matthew Revert.

Some of our books include A Million Versions of Right.

Our publications to date are:

Spare Key by R. Frederick Hamilton
A Million Versions of Right by Matthew Revert
