Artists are Storytellers Too

I like to think of artists as a much more ancient breed of storytellers.  Their art can prompt us to pick up a book, send our imagination into a whirlwind frenzy, and tell a story in just simple, simple terms.  Basically, I think of artists as storytellers without the bullshit.

And, like authors, there are a lot of artists out there.  Some times, though, there's an artist who needs to be discussed. 

Allow me to introduce you to Brandon Bird.

Bird has become quite the king of Pop Culture Art (a title that we've given - not an actual moniker).  I first caught on to Brandon's work when looking for different sorts of gifts to give.  He'd just created the Nicolas Cage colorforms, which were the hot gift item a few years ago.  Kevin Shamel got a set of Nic Cage colorforms.  So did the bizarro bunker in Portland.  But I had only scratched the surface of Bird's glory.

Law & Order Valentine's cards.  Philip Seymour Hoffman Halloween cards.  Mr. T Christmas cards.  Chuck Norris.  Jeff Goldblum.  Harrison Ford.  This guy has them all.

Brandon Bird just released a new smattering of art into the world - some of his best to date.  And, I think he may have created his absolute greatest work yet - Herzogalot Bear.  Remember the Care Bears?  Well, if you ever thought they needed a little more Herzog in the mix, you may have been right.  Here's the wonder that is Herzogolot.

This is simple talent from one of the most creative minds working today.  Slight twists of the natural, making them somehow unnatural.
